I want to communicate my personal thanks to the membership, especially to those whose unwavering volunteer efforts and donations continue to make Mat-Su Sea Hawkers what it is today; a successful youth sport support organization. This year passed quickly and it is impressive to see the accomplishments at they start to pile up on paper. Comments: this one was kind of tuff for me I really like Moore, I think he is stronger, faster and more durable than Forsett but Forsett has an ability to make things happen at times, hopefully Moore can make it to the practice squad.

Comments: no comments necessary, this is the easiest decision to make.

Wide Receiver 5

Comments: tuff choice on that 5th spot, but I believe Obumonu brings more to the table than Taylor he can play all 3 positions and is a solid special teams guy, and if the team decides to keep 6 Taylor will be that 6th guy.

Comments: I think the cuts are easy here so to comment on the guys that stay, the starters from L-R Locklear, Simms, Vallos, Unger, Willis for opening day with Big Walt still recovering when Walt comes back I think the starters will be from L-R Jones, Simms, Vallos, Locklear, Willis. I really like Vallos at center he reminds me of Tobeck, a little undersized and at times will have troble pushing bigger DT’s but seems to be able to stand his ground, I like Kyle Williams size, footwork and initial push this decision for me is based more on last season than what he has done this year yet.

Comments: Morrah had his chance but has looked lackluster in pre-season.

Comments: if Marcus is on the PUP list to start the season Hobbs will be the fill in, but Babinaux will take the on field duties in nickel and dime.

Comments: easy cut and both should be on the practice squad.

Comments: Bennett and Reed have muddied the waters here but can’t be left of the game day roster, the only other possibility is if they decide to only keep 9 Terrill will probably be the one cut due to the flexibility of the other guys.

Comments: field position makes this decision, both are solid field goal kickers but Mare’s length on kickoffs sets him apart either way the Hawks and another team will have a solid kicker on their roster as both will be on an opening day roster.

Comments: seems to be a solid snapper as we have not heard his name in any pre-season action.

Bumpus Cut - Your Thoughts

Michael Bumpus didn't make it this year. That means one of two things; the team did not find the potential this year that they saw in him last year, or they are cutting him first, trying to make it look like they don't want him, so they can sneek him back over to the practice squad. A gamble to be sure, if that is the tactic.

Personally, I saw Michael step up and perform last year, until he broke a finger (I think it was) when we needed receivers, badly. He showed some potential, but given the depth we obtained this year (can you say Housh your mama - Houshmandzadeh), it was pretty obvious he would not make the 53-man roster.

If not destined for our practice squad, then here's to hoping he lands on his feet. There are teams in need of receivers this season. Thank goodness the Hawks do not seem to be one of them.

Mat-Su Sea Hawkers Annual Report - 2008

Greetings Mat-Su Sea Hawkers. I take this opportunity to personally thank you for your valued membership and participation in our community minded organization. I will now touch base on some of our accomplishments in this our second year. If you are missing out on game day gatherings at Tailgaters, or any of these community service activities, we sure would like to see more of you. Thus far 2008 has seen Mat-Su Sea Hawkers:

- Achieve 2nd year in the Mat-Su business and volunteer communities- Grown membership from 50 to nearly 100 members

- Build, maintain, and promote a community presence on the World Wide Web at: http://www.mat-su-seahawkers.com/

- Obtained our Federal 501(c)(3) public charity approval and Letter of Determination – Your tax-deductible donations are welcome. (Tax document is available at http://www.mat-su-seahawkers.com/) Youth Specific Contributions:

- Mat-Su Youth Football - Financial Contribution to MYFA, with a promise of annual sponsorship

- Kyle Bolam - Olympic Youth Development Soccer Program – Individual Financial Contribution

- Spring 2009 - Initiating scholarships to each of the four primary public high schools; Houston, Wasilla, Colony, and Palmer

- NFL Punt, Pass, & Kick competition - Membership Volunteers helped operate this youth program - Our donations to the community youth currently comes primarily from annual membership dues and fund-raisers. With our new 501 (c) (3) non-profit tax status, people can make tax-deductible financial contributions to our organization.

Community Contributions:

- Membership participated in Valley Clean Up Day - Wasilla

- Membership participated in Mat-Su: Relay for Life - raising nearly $1200.00 for cancer awareness research

- Organization held 2nd annual free community open house BBQ

- Currently conducting a grass roots level effort to gain technical, financial, and volunteer support to fund, build, and operate a Multi-use sports dome, similar to the new sport dome in Anchorage. Treasurer - Dan Kennedy, is putting together a tentative Anchorage Dome field trip with community, business, and education leaders, which is scheduled for October 28

Final Tally For Our Relay Efforts

Matt takes Brian Baldinger on a tour of the new Seahawks facility in Renton video link, this is a video of Matt being Matt, a great quote from the start "I probably shouldn't say this but uh ther's no place to go to the bathroom out here your only real option is the lake but you don't want to deal with that......." some more good stuff from Hass, and you have to check out the gift he tries to give Baldinger.

Mat-Su Sea Hawkers Proud Sponsors of MYFA

The Mat-Su Sea Hawkers again give Mat-Su Youth Football (MYFA) a $300.00 sponsorship check for the 2009 youth football season. MYFA is just one of the many Mat-Su Valley youth sport groups that Mat-Su Sea Hawkers proudly support. MYFA treasurer Andy Evans thanks all of the Sea Hawkers for the booster club’s continued financial support.Andy noted that MYFA is currently the largest youth football program in the state of Alaska and has more than 400 participants. Andy further noted that the MYFA organization fully supports Mat-Su Sea Hawkers efforts to help get an enclosed sports dome built here in the valley. An indoor training facility will make a huge difference in helping our local youth keep up training levels and help them be able to compete on a more even playing field with regard to their athletic competitions and endeavors.
